TEACHER’S SELF-EFFICACY TOWARD COMPUTER RELATED TECHNOLOGY IN ELT

Nowadays both male and female teachers have equal chance to use computer in ELT. One of the important factors that affect teachers’ decision to use computer in ELT is self-efficacy. Some people perceive that female teachers have less self-efficacy than male teachers toward computer in ELT while the others think otherwise. This research aimed to examine teachers’ level self-efficacy toward computer in ELT and to investigate whether there is significant difference of computer self-efficacy between male and female teachers. The numbers of participants in this research were thirty English teachers (10 male teachers and 20 female teachers) from nine different schools in Kendari city. The instrument of this research was questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 18 items that investigated teachers’ self-efficacy toward computer in ELT. This research employed inferential statistic in analyzing data. The results of this research showed that most of the participants were categorized in high level of self-efficacy toward computer in ELT. Only a few of the teachers were categorized in medium level of self-efficacy and none of the participants were categorized in low level of self-efficacy toward computer in ELT. The hypothesis testing was conducted to meet the second objective of this research. It was to find out the difference between male and female teachers’ self-efficacy toward computer in ELT scores by using t-test. Before conducting the t-test, normality and homogeneity were conducted first. The result showed that toberved was -0.105 and ttable was 2.04227. it means that ttable was higher than toberved.P was 0.918 > 0.05.Hance, H0 was accepted and H1 was rejected.
