ABSTRACT
USING MULTIMEDIA TO TEACH ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS VOCABULARY

This study was aimed to find out the effect of multimedia to increase students’ vocabulary achievement at English department students of Halu Oleo University year 2015. The research question of this study was to measure does using multimedia have a significant effect on students’ vocabulary achievement. This study focused on using multimedia in teaching vocabulary. This study used two directional hypotheses the first was (H0) that means there is no significant effect of using Multimedia on achievement of English Department Student’s vocabulary of Halu Oleo University and the second was (H1) that means there is significant effect of using Multimedia on achievement of English Department Student’s vocabulary of Halu Oleo University
This study employed Pre-Experimental Design (one group pre-test and post test). The subject of this study was class A of English department students of 2015 year. To take the sample, the researcher used simple random sampling to randomize the number of students experiment. This study was conducted with five meetings where two meetings including pre-test and post-test and three meetings are including treatments. The researcher used objective test as its measurements. To prove the hypotheses, the researcher used paired sample t-test in SPSS ver.16. for windows.
Based on the analysis, the result of pre-test and post-test through SPSS the researcher found that the score of pre-test (37.27) lower than post-test (49.10) at 5% level of significance. Furthermore, the value of sig. (2 tailed) was 0, 00. Because 0, 00 was less than the alpha value (0.05), then null hypothesis (H0) rejected and (H1) accepted. Thus this study confirmed that there is a significant effect of Multimedia in teaching English department students’ vocabulary.
