ABSTRACT
ASNI KATRI KHAYANA, (N1A5 14 172), A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF ISLAMOPHOBIA, STEREOTYPE, ANDDISCRIMINATION, IN “MY NAME IS KHAN” MOVIE, A Thesis. Language and Literature Department. Cultural Studies Faculty at Halu Oleo University. Under Supervisionof Rohmana(Supervisor) and Neil Amstrong(Co Supervisor).

This research aims to discribes Islamophobia that happen in American and stereotypes, discrimination of person or group in American society to Muslim through characters in this movie. The question of this research that is how are Islamophobia described in “My Name is Khan” movie. Islamophobia describes through all of the events about behavior and negative things that be related by American society to Muslim after the tragedy of 11/9. This research use a descriptive qualitative. Source of data of this research collected from the transcription of the dialogues spoken by the characters in “My Name is Khan” movie and the video of the movie in order to pay close attention the context on the movie because this research includes Islamophobia, stereotype, and discrimination aspect. The researcher uses technique as a method of collecting data in the following way watching, reading and checking the transcription in the movie accurately, data reduction and coding. The steps of the data analysis of this study used presenting the data, describing the data, interpreting the data and concluding the data. The result of this research describes Islamophobia in the “My Name is Khan” movie through the various negative stereotype and discrimination of Muslim. The researcher found five types of Islamophobia, there are Islamophobia of Security in Airport to Muslim, Islamophobia of Media to Muslim, Islamophobia of American society to Muslim, Islamophobia of Teacher to Muslim, and Islamophobia of Hindu- India to Muslim. After the tragedy of 11/09 American society gives assumption about Muslim as a terrorist,because of that Muslim be the target of discrimination and other unpleasant treatment.
