ABSTRACT
HELYN KRIPSIANA HERMAN, N1A514058. This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Directives and Commisives Speech Act in “Big Hero 6” Movie Script” under the supervision of La Aso (Supervisor) and Neil Amstrong (Co- Supervisor).

This study is in the term of pragmatics which focused on speech act.The researcher chooses this movie because the researcher encounters some linguistic terms that has not been revealed clearly especially about speech acts that exist in its dialogues which is uttered by the characters. According to Yule (1996:47), speech act is action performed via utterances such as apology, complaint, compliment, invitation, promise or request. This study aimed to describe the directives and commisives speech acts used in Big Hero 6 Movie Script and also to find out the most dominant speech acts used in Big Hero 6 Movie Script. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The source of data in this study is Big Hero 6 movie script. The data were collected by downloading, watching, reading, identifying, coding and reducting thedata then analyzed by presenting the collected data, describing the context of the conversation, interpreting the directives and commisives speech act in Big Hero 6 movie through the dialogues and making conclusion.The result of this research described as follows: the researcher divided the data into two, first is data directives speech act and second is data commisives speech act. The researcher found17 data directives speech act, they wereincluded command (4 data), order (1 data), request (5 data), and suggestion (7 data) and there are 9 data of commisives speech act which included of promises, threat, refusal and pledges the data described as follow, promises (5 data), threat (1 data) and refusal (3 data) while researcher cannot find the statement of pledges in this movie.Based on the data that occurs in the movie, it was indicating that the used of directives especially suggesting are the most dominant speech acts used in Big Hero 6 Movie Script.
