This study sought to investigate the comparing reading text on Papers, computers and Smartphones on students’ Reading Comprehension and intrinsic motivation to read. Conducted with students at SMP Negeri 3 Kendari, the research questions guiding this study were: 1). Do significant differences exist in students’ reading comprehension as result of reading texts on paper, computer and Smartphone screens? 2). Do significant differences exist in students’ motivation to read as a result of reading text on paper, computer and Smartphone screens? 3). Is there an association between mode selection/preference (paper, computer and Smartphone) and gender? The study employed experimental factorial design 3X2 using ANOVA analysis. There were 60 students divided into 30 students male and were 30 students female, drawn through a multi-stage random sampling technique, participated in the present study. Two different types of instrument were employed: reading comprehension tests and intrinsic Motivation questionnaire. It was found that the probability value between Paper and Computer were 0, 31 < 0, 05, this suggests that there were mean difference between Paper and Computer. However, the probability value between Computer and Paper were 0, 031 < 0, 05, this suggests that there were mean difference between Computer and Paper significantly. Furthermore, the probability value between 1 (Paper group) and 3 (Smartphone group) were 0, 034 < 0, 05, this suggests that there were mean difference between 1 (paper group) and 3 (smartphone group) significantly. Then, the probability value between Computer and Smartphone were 0, 041 < 0, 05, this suggests that there were mean difference between Computer and smartphone was significantly, the probability value between 3 (smartphone group) and 1 (paper group) were 0, 034 < 0, 05, this suggests that there were mean difference between 3 (smartphone group) and 1 (paper group) significantly. The last, the probability value between 3 (smartphone group) and 2 (computer group) were 0, 014 < 0, 05, this suggests that there were mean difference between 1 (smartphone group) and 3 (computer group) significantly. Then, the association between Mode and gender, there was no an association between mode selection and gender.
