This study aims to investigate the relationship between self-talk and speaking achievement at the third semester students of Halu Oleo University. The research question of this study is “is there any correlation of Self-talk and speaking achievement of students at English department of Halu Oleo University in Kendari City. The objective of this study was to see how much the any correlation between self-talk and speaking achievement of student at English department of Halu Oleo University. This research was conducted in English department of Halu Oleo University, Kendari. The researcher used quantitative correlation design to describe relationship between self-talk and speaking achievement of the student. The sample of this research was student who registered at 2016/2017 which consisted of 47 Students. The sample was taken by random sampling technique and the instrument of this research were questionnaire which consist of 19 items and result of student’s speaking achievement from the lecturer. From the result, it is found that self-talk and speaking achievement of the student, self-talk motivation dimension and students speaking achievement have positive (0.261) but low correlation. It means that self-talk had small contribution to the speaking achievement. In addition, self-talk also not have significant coefficient to the speaking achievement because the value of Sig.2 tailed (0.077) mre than value α (0.05). Following rule if Sig. 2 tailed less than α value, it means that there is a significant correlation of investigated variables. To sum up, because of Sig. 2 tailed in this study more than alpha value (0.077 ≥ 0.05), it can be conclude that there is not significant correlation between self-talk and speaking achievement
