THE EFFECT OF USING AUDIO VISUAL (VIDEO) ON STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILL AT THE 2ND GRADE OF SMAN 20 KONAWE SELATAN

This study aims to find out whether there is or not significant effect of using Video toward English listening skill at the 2nd grade students of SMA Negeri 20 Konawe Selatan. The research question in this study “Is there any significant effect of using video text on students’ listening skill at the 2nd grade of SMAN 20 Konawe Selatan?” This study applied experimental using two classes’ pretest-posttest design. This study conducted from September 15th to October 15th 2018. There were 20 students in experimental class (XI IPS1) and 19 students in Control class (XI IPS2) who were registered in academic year 2018/2019. The instrument of this study was listening test, 15 items of multiple choices questions, and 10 items of fill in the blank questions. Before giving pre-test in two classes, the writer tried out the instrument first in class XI IPA1 to check the validity and reliability of the test. In conducting teaching and learning process, the writer taught the experimental class by using video and in control class without using video. After that, post-test was done in experimental class and control class. The result of this study shows that the teaching of listening by using video could increase the students’ listening skill at the 2nd grade of SMA Negeri 20 Konawe Selatan. It can be proved that the score of t-count = 9.5 is higher than t-table = 2.02 after consulting the t-table at the significant level 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) 37 = 0.02. So, H0 was rejected and H1 is accepted. Indeed, there was a significant effect of using Video on students’ listening skill at the 2nd grade of SMA Negeri 20 Konawe Selatan.
