This thesis is intended to find out the use of fidelity in two short stories mention above. The research question of this study is “How fidelity is used in “The Watches’ Loaves” and “The Gift of Magi” by O. Henry’s Short Story?”. The objective of this study is to find out how fidelity is used in “The Witches’ Loaves” and “The Gift of Magi” by O. Henry Short Stories into Indonesian versions. The source of data in this study are the “Witches’ Loaves” and “The Gift of Magi” and their Indonesian version. The data was collected through reading, classifying, and coding. The data analysis that the researcher used was the theory of fidelity by Guralnik, which includes the following steps; comparing, describing, and interpreting the data. Based on the findings and discussion, the researcher concludes that there are two findings on the research, they are fidelity infraction and fidelity usage. There are three categories of fidelity infraction, they are weakening the meaning (9 data), distorting the meaning (3 data), intensifying the meaning (2 data), and six samples of fidelity usage. The most frequent category of fidelity infraction appeared in “Witches’ Loaves” short story.
