<note>ABSTRACT

THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ HABIT IN THE RECITATION OF HOLY QUR’AN AND THEIR ABILITY
IN THE PRODUCTION OF CERTAIN ENGLISH
CONSONANT SOUNDS AT MAN 1 KENDARI

RISKA RAHIM (G2Q1 16 021)

Some sounds are very similar to English, others slightly similar, and others quite different (Ryding 2005). Habit in reading of Qur’an can give good affect with perceived similarity of what are in the Qur’an reading and English consonants associated; if the students always meet with the one sound from holy Qur’an e.g. (ذ) so they can pronounce English sounds e.g. “those” [ðoʊz], “mother” [‘mʌðər], “share” [ʃeə], “wafer” [weɪfə], etc. Basically, this study was to find out the significant association between students’ habit in reading of Holy Qur’an and their ability in producing certain English consonant sounds. It was descriptive associative. This research site was conducted at MAN 1 Kendari. 127 students were as population who divided into four (4) classes, Natural department of one, two, three and four of second class, academic year 2018/2019. It was taken one class as sample consists of 33 students. Data collection processes were by questionnaire, oral test, and interview. Selection of samples was random sampling. Data were analyzed in the SPSS version 20 for category according to the research focus. The result (Pearson Correlation on SPSS 20) was highest than the “t-table” (0.802>0.344) or P value = 0.00 < 0.05. There is significant association between students’ habit in reading of holy Qur’an and their ability in producing of English certain consonant sounds” is positive accepted in hypothesis.
