The research question formulated “is there any significant effect of storytelling technique on students’ speaking skill?” This study applied pre experimental design by using one class that given pre-test and post-test by teaching using storytelling technique. The sample of this study is the second grade of SMAN 1 Lawa. This study conducted from July 16th to August 2nd, 2018. The initial procedure of the treatment was planned to consist of the following stages: First, introduced and explain about material and asked students to make a group, each group consist of 3 students. Second, gave instruction to the students to read the script story about fairy tale or legend that the teacher has given. The teacher expalin more about generic stucture of narrative text to help students easy to memmorize the story. Third,asked the students to discuss about the story and retell base on their idea and practice in their group. The last, choses representatives of each group to storytelling a complete story one after another as continuous story and teacher give 3 minutes to perfom that in front of class.The result of the research firstly find the mean score of pre-test is 2.1058 and the mean score in post-test is 2.8654. Beside, based on the hypothesis test by using Paired Sample t-test it was gotten the value of sig (2 tailed) = 0.000 with α 0.05, H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted because the value of sig (2 tailed) is bellow the α value. And it indicates that there is a signifficant effect of teaching speaking by using storytelling technique on students’ speaking skill at the second grade of SMAN 1 Lawa.
