Story completion becomes the new teaching technique in the process of language learning especially in developing students‟s speaking fluency. This study investigated story completion as the teaching technique in developing students speaking fluency at XI MIA 2 of senior high school 9 Kendari and the research questions of this study is “Is there any significant effect of using story completion in developing students‟ speaking fluency. Moreover, this study applied quasi experimental design which signifies to compare the result of post- test between experimental class and control class. The total number of students; involved was 70 who administered in number was 23 students. The sample of the study was random sampling, which class selected through mean scores. Here, experimental class and contol class were used in order to examine the effect of story story completion technique in both classes. For data collection, the researcher used speaking test. The speaking test is collected by assigning pretest to know students prior knowledge, teratment to conduct teaching speaking through story completion, and post-test to know students speaking achievement after applying treatment. The result showed a significant difference on students speaking fluency before ad after treatment. The reseacher used parametric statistic independent sample t-test of SPPS 16 to test the hypothesis. Independent sample t-test was conducted to compare gain scores in experimental class and control class. Data anlaysis showed there was significance difference between the scores for experimental class (M= 4.69, N=23, SD=44), and control class (M=2,97, N=23, SD= 68) p = 0,000,0.05. Sig. (2-tailed)
