ABSTRACT
This study aims at finding the correlation between students’ verbal-linguistic intelligence and students’ reading achievement at English Department of Halu Oleo University. Used correlation study as the design of study with purposive sampling in taking sample technique where the population 104 students and the sample was class B (43 students). Instrument of this study was verbal-linguistic intelligence test. Verbal-linguistic intelligence test consisted of 29 item test in form of multiple choices, While reading achievement score was taken from their lecturer’ in reading 1 mid test. Technique data analysis used SPSS version 16 by beginning validity and reliability test, normality test, linearity test, and correlation test. Result of this study shows that with the value of correlation Coefficient is 0.585, indicating a moderate correlation and significance value is 0.000 which is lower than α (0.05). In brief, there is a significant correlation between students’ verbal-linguistic intelligence and students’ reading achievement. The use of learning style base on their Multiple Intelligence can help students to understand what they need in learning process especially as language learners in order to get good achievement.
