THE EFFECT OF GALLERY WALK ON THE STUDENTS’ WRITING ACHIEVEMENT AT TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 2 TOMIA

This study aims at finding the effectiveness of Gallery Walk on the students’ writing achievement at the grade tenth of SMAN 2 TOMIAThe design of this study was quasi experimental. It involved two classes that was given pre-test and post-test before and after treatment. The population of this research was the first grade students of SMAN 2 TOMIA in academic year 2017/2018 and the chosen sample was class X MIA 1 as the experimental classand MIA 2 as the control class both classes consists of 30 students, but only 20 students who were participated in the pretest and posttest. In taking the sample, the researcher applied cluster sampling technique. The obtained data analyzed using descriptive statistic and inferential analysis (Independent sample t-test). The result showed that the use of gallery walk is significantly influenced students’ writing competence which was proved by the enhancement of students mean score on pretest to posttest. The mean score of pretest for experimental class is 47.35 and the mean score of posttest is 77.57 with the increasing of value 30.2 point. Furthermore, the statistics data showed that the sig (2 tailed) value is 0.000, and α = 0.05. So that, Sig. is < α or H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Thus, can be concluded that gallery walk has proved to give a significant enhancement on students writing competence with the large effect size 0.65
