COMMUNITY STRUCTURE OF SEA CUCUMBERS (HOLOTHURIDEA)
IN WAWORAHA WATERS SOROPIA DISTRICT
ABSTRACT
Sea cucumber is one of the important economical marine resources that are widely used as a food source. This research was conducted in May 2017 and aimed to know thestructure of sea cucumber community in Waworaha Waters. Data Were Collected using quadratic transect method (1×1 m2) with transect line length100 m and interval length 20 m. Data were collected twice on each station, both in the light moon and dark moon, with distance adjusting to the presence of sea cucumber. Sea cucumber species obtained were Holothuria atra, Holothuria edulis, Actinopyga miliaris, and Actinopyga mauritiana. The density (Di) of sea cucumbers obtained ranged from 1–2,2 (light moon) and 0,2–3,2 (dark moon). The diversity index (H') was obtained from 0,50–0,85 (light moon) and 0–1,03 (dark moon). The uniformity index of species (E) was obtained from 0,77–0,90 (light moon) and 0–80 (dark moon). The dominance index (D) was obtained from 0,46–0,56 (light moon) and 1–0,62 (dark moon). Substrate structures at the study sites were sand clay, rubbles, and sand.
