RELATIONSHIP BY FISHING WITH LONG DENSITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FISH ABUNDANCE AND SEAGRASS DENSITY
IN THE HOGA ISLAND WAKATOBI
ABSTRACT
One of the ecological roles of seagrass is as a fish habitat. The existence of seagrasses can affect fish abundance in a shallow waters. This research was conducted in March-July 2017 in Hoga Island, Kaledupa, Wakatobi. This study aims to determine the condition of seagrass density and composition of fish species existing in the seagrass ecosystem, and analyze the relationship between fish abundance and seagrass density. Data collection of fish and seagrass was conducted at three stations (southern side of Hoga Island Waters).Data analysis used were seagrass density analysis, fish species composition, fish abundance, fish diversity index, fish uniformity index, fish dominance index, and linear regression. The waters quality of Hoga Island was generally in good condition to support the life of fish and seagrass.Based on the results of the research, there were 4 species of seagrass scattered in the Hoga Island Waters, such as Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Halodule uninervis, and Halophila ovalis. These species were the most common species found in Hoga Island Waters.Siganus sp. was a fish species commonly found in the waters of Hoga island as well. Other fish species, such as Achanturidae, Apogonidae, Balistidae, Carangidae, Engraulidea, Gerridae, Heamulidae, Hemiramphidae, Holocentridae, Kyphosidae, Lethrinidae, Lutjanidae, Mullidae, Pomacentridae, Scaridae, Serranidae, and Siganidae. The ecological index analysis showed that the seagrassand fish communitywere in stable condition. Linear regression analysis showed that seagrass density had a significant effect on fish abundance and diversity.
