Electronic and Printed Dictionaries: A Comparative Study of Students’ Motivation and Achievement by Beginners Foreign Language Learners in SMP Negeri 47 Konawe Selatan

A Comparative Study of Students’ Motivation and Achievement by Beginners Foreign Language Learners in SMP Negeri 47 Konawe Selatan. The researcher employed Quasi Experimental Design to conduct this study. Three instruments were employed in this study, a questionnaires, interviews and vocabulary test. Population of this study is all the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 47 Konawe Selatan comprises of 2 classes, consist of 45 students were taken as the sample of this study. The data was analyzed by using SPSS16 to measure the Electronic and Printed Dictionaries: A Comparative Study of Students’ Motivation and Achievement by Beginners Foreign Language Learners. The result of this study shows that: (1) There is no significant difference of students’ motivation between the students who use an electronic dictionary and those who use a printed one. (2) Electronic Dictionary is little bit higher than Printed Dictionary in students’ motivation in learning English. (3) There is a significant difference of students’ English vocabulary achievement between the students who use an electronic dictionary and those who use a printed one. (4) Electronic Dictionary is little bit higher than Printed Dictionary in students’ English vocabulary achievement.
