THE EFFECT OF IMPROVISATIONS TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT THE SECOND GRADE OF SMAN 1 KUSAMBI (A Pre-Experimental Study at XI IPA 3 Class of SMAN 1 Kusambi)

This study aimed to investigate whether there was a significant effect of using Improvisations technique on students speaking ability. The research question of this study was “Is there any significant effect of using Improvisations technique on students speaking ability at the second grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kusambi?”. The design of this study was pre- experimental design in form of one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this study was the second graders of SMAN 1 Kusambi in Science Class who register in academic year 2017-2018 with the number of population around 82 students. The sample of this study was students at XI IPA 3 consisted of 11 males and 15 females in SMA Negeri 1 Kusambi. The instrument of this study was a speaking test. The data were collected by using several activities. They were pre-test, treatment, and post-test. This study used purposive sampling as a technique of sampling. To analyze the result of this study, the researcher used Paired sample T-test in SPSS 16.0 for windows. A paired sample t-test was conducted to compare the scores of pre-test and post-test in experimental class. There was a significant difference in the scores for pre-test (M= 1.47, SD= 0.38) and post-test (M= 2.85, SD= 0.45) conditions; p=0.000 Sig.
