AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ANXIETY AND SELF-EFFICACY IN WRITING
AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF HALU OLEO UNIVERSITY

Anxiety is one of students' problems in writing.Students with high anxietyhave enormous impact on students writing outcomes. The purposes of this study were to find out the students anxiety and self-efficacy categories and investigate how the students experience in particular categories in writing at English Department of Halu OleoUniversity. This study employed descriptive qualitative design. The sample of this study were the students of the fourth semester in writing III of students class B which consisted of 33 students. The data were collected by using close-ended questionnaire and interview guide. The close-ended questionnaire was analyzed by using SPSS 16 version while interview analyzed descriptively. The result showed that cognitive anxiety became dominant category of writing anxiety and unity become dominant category of writing self-efficacy experienced by the students. In addition, this study also founded some factors that cause students feel anxiety. Students worried about other perceptions and negative expectations by other people. That’s had negative impact. Were students with high anxiety can offend and make worse students behavior especially in learning process. Concerning with the writing self-efficacy that students feel high confidence in category unity. Students belief about their ability in organized writing compositions is very well and students have low self-efficacy in category punctuation. They belief about their ability in used punctuation is very less. Students with low self-efficacy have negative impact. Students have to increase their self-efficacy especially in punctuation category and students have to resist their anxiety in somatic anxiety category.
