This study is intended to show the individuation process that reflected through the main character in The Spiderwick Chronicles movie. The problem is formulated that How does Jared Grace as a main character gains individuation in The Spiderwick Chronicles. This problem then analyzed by using Carl Gustav Jung psychoanalysis, it is consist of four aspects persona, self, anima and shadow.This research applied a descriptive qualitative method. The source of data in this study is The Spiderwick Chronicles movie released in 2008, at United State. The data was collected by watching, pausing, identifying and classifying to get a complete analysis.
This study found that the individuation in The Spiderwick Chronicles is major character namely Jared is able to achieve the individuation process with the existence of Persona, Anima, Shadow, and Self in his personality. Then, the major character is able to transform them into the conscious mind and at the same time synchronize and harmonize them, means that the major character is able to minimize the persona, realize his anima, balance his shadow, enhance his self gradually leading to the highest hierarchy in the centre of the psyche. The individuation process of the major character occurs when he has moved to the new house and found the Arthur Spiderwick’s mistery book. That book bring Jared go to the new adventure by the way Jared struggling his family with Mulgarath as Arthur’s enemy. Jared throught all the things to clear the mistery book by meet Arthur and ask him to keep that book save. Jared realize his self-realitation with his family especially with his mom.
