ABSTRACT

Runi Saryanti (C1D1 14 168) entitled Commodification of Duata Ritual on Bajo Ethnic in Wakatobi Tourism Festival of Southeast Sulawesi. Under the guidance of Mr. La Ode Jumaidin, S. Sos, M. Si as the supervisor I and Mrs. Hasriyani Amin, S. Sos, M. Si as the supervisor II.
The purpose of this research is to know the form of Commodification of Duata Ritual on Bajo Ethnic in tourism festival of Wakatobi Southeast Sulawesi. This research uses Semiotics theory. This research uses qualitative research methods with research subjects ie Bajo ethnic community who know and perform Duata ritual. The technique of determining informants in this research is purposive sampling technique, while data collection techniques are by observation, in-depth interviews, document studies and documentation.
The results of this study can be concluded that some material in Duata ritual experienced commodification that aims to get the economic value in its appearance at the tourism festival Wakatobi Southeast Sulawesi caused by several factors namely economic, cultural and tourism factors. This does not diminish the meaning within which is a means of treatment and worship of the Almighty God in order to avoid any distress but, positively and negatively impacts which is positive is Duata ritual commodification can provide financial benefits for Duata ritual production and can also be used as a media for the preservation and succession of Duata rituals to the next generation and became one of the Wakatobi tourism icons. while the negative impact is the shift of value from the sacred to the profan.
