The Effect Of Cooperative Script Technique On Students’ Speaking Achievement At The Second Year Of SMKN 2 Pasarwajo

ABSTRACT


The objective of the study is to find out whether there is or not a significant effect of Cooperative Script technique on students’ speaking achievement at the second year of SMK Negeri 2 Pasarwajo. This study appliedquasy experimental design which used control class. The instrument of this study was speaking test that consisted of three questions in term of procedure text.The population of this study was all of the students at the second year of SMK Negeri 2 Pasarwajo who are registered in academic year 2016/2017.The sampleconsisted of two classes with 14 students in experimental class and 14 students in control class.The sample was taken by using purposive sampling. The researcher collected the data by giving pre test, treatment, and post test. Pre test was done in two classes to know students’ speaking achievement before being given the treatment. The researcher gave treatmentthrough teachingand learning process by using Cooperative Script technique in experimental class and using conventional method in control class.The researcher gave post testto know the students’ speaking achievement after giving treatment by Cooperative Script technique compared with the result inclass that taught by conventional method. The students’ scores were graded by two raters using Brown’s scale and analyzed using ttest formula. The result showed that there was a difference of students’ speaking achievement who taught by Cooperative Script technique and conventionalmethod. In experimental class the mean score of post test was 65.57, while in control class the mean score of post test was 55.28. The effect size was 0.49 categorized as medium effect. The result ofttest=2.92 whereas ttable on df (degree of freedom) 26 in the significance of 0.05% was 2.056 in two tailed test. The hypothesis testing showed thatttest >ttable orH0 was refused and H1 was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of Cooperative Script technique on students’ speaking achievement at the second year of SMKN 2 Pasarwajo.
